St. Louis Health Department Celebrates National Women And Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Did you know there are nearly 1 million people in the United States diagnosed with HIV and nearly 1 in 4 are women? The City of St. Louis Department of Health is inviting residents to join the department in this year’s observance of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office on Women’s Health [www.womenshealth.gov] sponsors this awareness day.

“This public health observance which occurs annually on March 10th is an opportunity to bring awareness to the many ways women can protect themselves and their partners from HIV,” says Natalie Torres-Negrón, program manager for the City of St. Louis Department of Health. “We generate conversations, show support to those living with HIV and spotlight what’s being done to reduce HIV in women and girls across the country.” During this year’s observance the Department will be promoting prevention, testing, and treatment efforts in your neighborhood, in St. Louis, and around the world.

St. Louis residents are encouraged to visit the Health Stop for free HIV/STI testing at the City of St. Louis Department of Health, 1520 Market Street, St. Louis, MO 63103 Room 1625. The Health Stop is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to5:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments can be arranged by calling 314-657-1584.
