St. Louis Landmark Destroyed By Fire

The James L. Clemens House was a total loss after an early morning fire.

NORTH ST. LOUIS, MO — A historic home in north St. Louis was destroyed in an early-morning blaze. The James L. Clemens House, home of author Mark Twain's uncle and a spot he reportedly visited, caught fire early Wednesday.

Firefighters responded to a four-alarm fire at the home at around 3:30 a.m., according to KSKD.

According to the City of St. Louis website, the house, located 1849 Cass Ave., has been a city landmark since 1971. It was built around 1859-1860.
