You should make a habit of pointing out environmental print on signs, labels, and menus. Additionally, you can reinforce print awareness when you read aloud. Try reading together at the same time each day, like before bedtime. Not only will it become a tradition you both look forward to, by practicing finger-tracking, pointing out the relationship between the pictures and the story, and allowing your child to explore the book itself, you are aiding in developing their print awareness.

Here are three great books to incorporate into your bedtime routine!

A Book of Sleep

From the World of Goodnight Moon A board book edition of a beloved bedtime classic where a young bunny says goodnight to everything in and around their great green room.

Bedtime Bonnet

For caregivers: You may find, as you're teaching your child to read, that you need some resources as well! Here is a great book that discusses the benefits of making reading aloud a part of your family routine:

The Read-aloud Family

“You will never regret reading aloud to your kids.

But we all know that connecting deeply with our families can be difficult in our busy, technology-driven society. Reading aloud is one of the best ways to be fully present with our children, even after they can read themselves, but it isn't always easy to do. In The Read-Aloud Family, you will find the inspiration you need to start a read-aloud movement in your own home.”
