Two St. Louis residents selected as 2017 Bank of America Student Leaders

Sumner High School and Rosati-Kain High School students selected for 2017 Bank of America Student Leader Program

Sumner High School senior Daria Silver and Rosati-Kain High School senior Patricia Carey are two of five St. Louis-area teens selected to be part of the 2017 Bank of America Student Leaders program this summer. The program awards the students a paid, eight-week summer internship at a local nonprofit and a trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Bank of America Student Leadership Summit.

From an early age, Daria showed interest and commitment to community service. At age 13, Daria attended the Wyman Teen Leadership program, where she participated in outdoor challenges and completed over 40 hours of community service. Through her networking and team building exercises at Wyman, Daria learned how to effectively articulate her thoughts and ideas about leadership and domestic violence in her community. Additionally, Daria sold candy bars in high school to raise money to attend a fashion camp. This experience, combined with her leadership training, has taught Daria how to set goals, strategize next steps and be confident.

Throughout her junior and senior year, Patricia was actively involved at Ranken-Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. As a volunteer, Patricia helped care for babies and played games with younger patients. This experience helped Patricia learn how to communicate with young patients, especially when they were anxious about receiving care or treatment. Patricia is also passionate about social justice and hunger in St. Louis, and enjoys volunteering at organizations like St. Anthony’s Food Pantry and Whole Kids Outreach to help end food insecurity in her community.

As part of the Bank of America Student Leaders program, Daria and Patricia received paid eight-week internships. Daria is interning at National Council of Jewish Women – St. Louis, while Patricia is interning at the YWCA St. Louis. The internships provide students with valuable work experience while also supporting the nonprofits with extra help this summer.
