New YMCA Camp Director Announced

Adam Styer has a passion for sports.  He also has a lot of experience with and enthusiasm for the YMCA.  Together, these make the perfect combination.  Styer, as he likes
to be called, is the new Y-Club/Sports/Camp Director for the St. Charles County Family YMCA.

Styer grew up in Minnesota, but spent many of his summers in St. Charles where he enjoyed the St. Charles County Family YMCA camp programs.  At the age of 16 he became a Leader In Training (LIT) at the Minnesota YMCA Day Camp Guy Robinson.  By the next year he was a Camp
Counselor.  Later he worked at Camp Abilities in Brockport, New York, a deaf and blind sports camp, which he
greatly loved.

Lindenwood University recruited him on a basketball
scholarship, and Styer jumped in with his typical enthusiasm.  While pursuing a degree in psychology with a
minor in business, he also played basketball, baseball, football, volleyball, and threw hammer in track, coaching most of those sports as well.  He graduated in spring of 2010.

Earlier this summer Styer joined the St. Charles County
Family YMCA as a referee and Camp Counselor. Now he joins the Y team as the Y-Club/Sport/Camp Director – taking the place of Matt Engel, who is moving on as Director of Outdoor Education at Camp Lakewood.

Styer brings his experience, passion for sports and
children, and keen eye on program development to the St. Charles County Family YMCA.  “Children have unlimited
potential,” said Styer.  “It is our job at the Y to let them discover it.”
