Updated: Field Takes Shape for April 5 General Election
Nine candidates file to run for four Board of Alderman spots.
The deadline has passed and the field is set for the April 5, 2011,Β General Municipal Election in St. Peters.
Candidates had until 5 p.m. today, Jan. 18, to file and get placed on the ballot. The St. PetersΒ Board of Alderman will have four of the eight spots up for re-election. All four of the incumbents have filed and will try and keep their seats. Some will have to fend off two challengers while one is going unopposed.
The other race is for Municipal Judge.Β

Incumbent Dave ThomasΒ will be in a three-way race to retain his seat. Thomas will square off John Scherr and DoloresΒ Sherman.
Β Thomas, 40, was first elected to the Board in 2007. The Marine Corps veteran and Boeing employee is the Aldermanic representative to the city'sΒ Youth Leadership Advisory Council.Β

Scherr, 52, is a former St. Charles City Councilman is trying to get back to politics, this time in St. Peters.Β
Sherman, 85, gained a level of fame as the Potato Lady in 2005. According to the Suburban Journals, "she was found guilty of peace disturbance for throwing a potato at a 22-year-old neighbor who she said had been harassing her." Sherman will be running for public office for the first time in her life.Β

Ward 2CurrentΒ Board President Judy Bateman is basically a lock to return to the Board. She is running unopposed.
Terri Violet is challenging Gus Elliott, the incumbent.
elected in 2007. He served on the Planning and ZoningΒ CommissionΒ prior to that.Β
Violet served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. She has never held an elected office.
Ward 4Β Don Aytes, the elder statesmen of the Board will run against John DurajczykΒ and Bob Morrison.Β
Aytes, 81, is an Air Force Veteran who was a Board member from 1984 to 2002. After taking time off, he ran again in 2007 and won.Β
During Aytes' time away from the Board, Morrison filled his role. A former educator, Morrison was on the Board from 2001 to 2007.
Durajczyk ownsΒ Faithfully Yours Apparel & Promotions and was elected as theΒ Trustee of Country Creek Subdivision 1980. He has not served on the Board.
Municipal JudgeDonald Kohl will be running against Michael Carter for Municipal Judge.Β
Kohl is the incumbent and elected in 2007.
Carter, who lives in St. Peters, is already aΒ municipalΒ judge in Wentzville. He has filed to run again for that position and will run in St. Peters.Β
UPDATE: Carter has withdrawn from the race, according to his Twitter account.
