Five Ways to Beat the Heat in St. Peters

With the Midwest in the midst of a summer heat wave, here's five things to do to keep cool.

All week long, and continuing until this weekend, the MidwestΒ is stuck in an excessive heat warning.Β  According to the National Weather Service, "a dome of hot and humid air will remain anchored over the region for the rest of the week ... continuing the dangerous combinations of high heat and humidity." If you've been outside at all in the past few days, surely you've felt the heat.Β Temperatures in St. Peters have soared into the 90s and the heat index has reached 100+ on multiple days.Β  So what's one to do to get out of the heat? We've got you covered. Here are five ideas for things to do so you don't get too hot. 1. Stay homeΒ  If you're off work or school, the simplest thing to do is crank the air conditionerΒ and relax. Read a book, rent a movie, spend time talking to loved onesβ€”whatever tickles your fancy. The oppressive heat won't get you on your couch. That is, unless you are lacking an a/c unit. If you find yourself without air conditioning, hit up a cooling center. In St. Peters, the Senior Center is open for your cool-down needs. St. Charles has other options as well.Β  2. Visit the Rec-Plex As suggested byΒ @Tawna76 on Twitter, the St. Peters Rec-Plex is a great place to go to beat the heat.Β  The 50-meter pool is closed for repairs to the filter system, but the leisure pool is still open. If swimming isn't for you, there's always the ice rink. The rink has daily open sessions for skaters to sharpen their skills in the cold. 3. Hit up the Pool Water will cool you down fast. Just remember to wear sunscreen so you don't get burnt to a crisp. St. Peters has a variety of pools to jump into for a quick cool down. 4. Catch a Movie Movie theaters are traditionally ice boxes. I remember a friend of mine bringing socks to wear for a movie when she was wearing sandals. Mid Rivers 14 Cine may not be an ice box, but it will surely keep you out of the sun for a few hours. If you go before noon, tickets are only $5.Β  5. Walk the Mall Window shopping is free. Take a trip to Mid Rivers MallΒ and enjoy just walking around in the a/c. It's a great way to get some exercise without having to go outside and worry about heat exhaustion.
