The Lemay Chamber of Commerce and Midwest Bank Centre honored the Mid-East Area Agency on Agingβs South County Senior Resource Center on October 9 with its annual Community Service Award. The award recognizes the Centerβs long track record of serving older adults in the Lemay area.

βIt was truly an honor for our center to be recognized for our work in the community,β said Pamela Guest, administrator of the Center. βThe number of seniors in this area continues to grow, and the need for our services is greater than ever.β

The South County Senior Resource Center is one of 23 senior centers in four counties operated by the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging (MEAAA). The Center offers a wide range of programming, from assistance with Medicare and health insurance questions, to employment and transportation services, energy and legal assistance, disaster preparedness and assistance with acquiring medical equipment and supplies. MEAAA staff are available to help identify clientsβ needs and ensure they can access all the benefits to which they are entitled. βWe are here to meet the needs of seniors in whatever ways we can.β Guest added.

MEAAA also operates the regionβs largest Meals on Wheels program, bringing nutritious meals and companionships to more than 2,100 home-bound seniors each day, Monday through Friday. βRecent federal and state budget cuts have threatened our ability to meet the growing demand for this service, but we are finding ways to meet this challengeβ she added.
