October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and HopeLine from Verizon is committed to helping the nearly one in four women, one in seven men and more than 3 million children in the United States who are affected by domestic violence.
Wireless phones and technology serve as a vital link for all of us. Theyβre also essential for domestic violence victims and survivors to reach emergency or support services in times of crisis and stay connected with employers, family and friends.
As youβve seen through the previous stories weβve published this month, weβre doing our part to support victims by collecting no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories and using them to benefit domestic violence organizations nationwide. Since 2001, Verizon has donated 180,000 phones and awarded $21.4 million in cash grants to partner agencies across the country. These grants are used to support victims of domestic violence and to enhance awareness programs.
