Rec-Plex Pool Open for Swimmers
St. Peters pool re-opens after mid-summer closure for filter replacement.

In order to replace the flitration system in the pool, the Rec-Plex shut down the 50-meter pool for nearly a month. On July 11, , but on Tuesday, Aug. 2, the pool was re-opened.Β
The pool was closed to replace an aging filter system in the pool. The Rec-Plex had been using the same filter system since the building opened in 1994. After 17 year, the system was getting old and needed a replacement.Β Β of this year,Β Parks and Recreation DirectorΒ Jeff Hutsler informed the Board of Aldermen that the filter system was nearing the end of its lifespan.Β Changing the filter proved to be an expensive proposition and Hutsler said that the whole aging system could be replaced for nearly the same cost. At theΒ , the Aldermen agreed to fund the project with money from the Natatorium Foundation.Β The Foundation is the self-sustaining fund established for the maintenance of the Natatorium. The Foundation started with $2 million in funds, has spent $2 million and still has $2 million.
