Primary Tuesday Kicks off 2012 Election Season
St. Peters hotel tax on the ballot during today's election.

Let the voting season begin.
Polls across Missouri, St. Charles County and St. Peters will open at 6 a.m. today for the first election day of 2012. Voters will have a chance to hit the polls to vote in the presidential primaryβ. The Republican nominee will be chosen at a March 17 caucus rather than the at the polls today.
The big names will all be on the ballot, along with some lesser known names. A complete list of all the ballotsβthere are 10 in total can be found here and also are attached as images to this article.

In St. Peters, however, voters will be voting on Proposition 1. The proposition is for a two percent sales tax on hotels and motels in the area. This is how the proposition will appear on the ballot:
Shall the City of St. Peters, Missouri, impose a tax on the charges for all sleeping rooms paid by the transient guests of hotels and motels situations in the City of St. Peters, Missouri, at a rate of two percent (2%) for the sole purpose of promoting tourism?

St. Peters officials are in favor of the proposition, pointing out that neighboring city O'Fallon has a tax as well.
Polls open at 6 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.
