Creve Coeur Camera Adds 10th Store In Springfield

Creve Coeur Camera, a photographic equipment and photo finishing company, will open its tenth store in Springfield, Ill. on Nov. 2.  The 3,000-square-foot store is larger than most of their existing locations by nearly 1,000-square-feet.  Matt Nolte, the store’s Crestwood store manager, will relocate with his family to Springfield to oversee the business along with his current assistant
manager Mike Steuart.

Located at 2955 Lindbergh Blvd., the new store includes an expanded camera and lighting department plus four instant print kiosks, full-service photo finishing, and 24 hour turnaround on most photo finishing, prints and posters.

Owner Stephen Weiss grew up in St. Louis but, beginning at the age of 10, worked at this family-owned and operated shoe business Weiss & Neuman Shoe Co.  During some summers as a young boy, he worked at S. A. Barkers located in Springfield, Ill.  The Weiss’ bought the existing downtown shoe/clothing store in the 1960s and closed it in the 1990s.  They also owned two other Springfield, Ill. businesses:  Martin’s and Warehouse of Shoes.

“I am very excited about the direction my company is headed,” said Weiss.  “Springfield is where I got my first taste of retail, so I’m looking forward to reuniting with the community more than four decades later.”  Weiss said that his business is slated to earn $20 million in 2013 which includes a projected $2 million increase from the Springfield addition.

Research company NPD Group recently cited Creve Coeur Camera as responsible for over 50% of all camera sales in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.  According to industry manufacturers, the company is in the top 10% of all camera retailers in the U.S.

Creve Coeur Camera was founded in 1974 and purchased by current owner Weiss in 1998.  Current locations include
