Big Brothers Big Sisters Launches New Nominate Someone Today! Campaign

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri asks community to nominate people to be a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri is excited to announce the launch of its Nominate Someone Today! campaign. Aiming to recruit 1,000 volunteers by the end of the year, with more than 500 being men, the agency is calling on the greater St. Louis community to help identify potential volunteers, especially Big Brothers.

The nominate language is a departure from the agency’s previous apply, accept or reject model. “We believe that the word ‘nomination’ celebrates and honors the central role our Bigs play in helping us fulfill our mission of building trusting and enduring relationships that encourage and support young people,” noted Becky James-Hatter, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. “Likewise, inviting the community to ‘nominate someone’ to be a Big is a proactive and positive way of identifying potential volunteers as well as making the nominees feel special in the process.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters knows that it takes a little extra to build an enduring relationship with a child. Volunteers are typically a little extra accepting, a little extra flexible and a little extra fun. “These adults might be your friends, your family members, your co-workers – or maybe even you,” James-Hatter commented, stressing, “Nominate someone today!”

With more than 1,000 children waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister, and more than 50 percent of that number being boys, it is important now to identify volunteers and highlight the need for men.

Research shows the support and encouragement provided by a Big has the power to help children enjoy healthy relationships, stay in school, avoid substance abuse and have the self-confidence to make good decisions. Big Brothers Big Sisters urges individuals, companies and organizations help promote recruitment activities.
