Local Moms and Their Children Got a Special Mother’s Day Gift this Year

A number of local mothers received an unexpected gift of new apparel this Mother’s Day. Their children also received something special: the thrill of being able to go on a little shopping spree for their moms – thanks to dressbarn.

Aiming to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and unique contributions that every mom makes to a home, dressbarn launched its “To Mom, with Love” program. The unique effort brought hundreds of children into dressbarn stores across the country where they were given $50 gift cards to shop for their mothers.

Vivian Behrens, senior vice president, chief marketing officer at dressbarn, commented,  “It’s a great program that helps honor someone who too often goes overlooked.”

Locally, dressbarn of Brentwood and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri worked together to help make this year’s Mother’s Day special for a few moms of the agency's Little Brothers/Sisters. A group of Littles, paired with their Bigs, visited the Brentwood store to shop for gifts. In addition, they took home flowers and Mother’s Day cards for their respective mothers.

“We were excited to work with dressbarn on this inaugural ‘To Mom, With Love’ event,” said Becky James-Hatter, President/CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. “It was a terrific opportunity for our Littles to pick out something nice and to recognize their moms for their love and support.”

The Littles who participated in the event were selected based on essays they wrote about why their moms are special. One Little Sister shared, “My mother is raising four of us and is very caring to us. She sometimes volunteers to do things at my school.  I like it when she comes. A lot of the kids in my school like my mom and that makes me feel proud!”
