Re-Learn How To Laugh

A simple blog about the everyday events in our lives that sometimes needs a reminder as we move with lightening speed through our days.

Remember the mortification you endured when someone was polite enough to inform you of the toilet paper trailing behind after leaving a public bathroom? How about the absolute mortification that you felt when someone informed you of the remaining piece of salad stuck between your teeth as you smile to everyone you know.  That rapid beat of your heart, and the sinking feeling in your stomach knowing that someone will be talking about you later, “Can you believe …?!”

Learn to laugh!

People have become obsessed with taking themselves so seriously. Granted, we must remain stoic figures with a plastered smile for workplaces or official events, but without the ability to be human and laugh at ourselves we lose that connection that links us all.  Keep in mind, I am not recommending you go out and rent every Jim Carrie movie to pick up ideas on how to be the center of attention, but simply take the humiliating events in stride by laughing so others can do so freely along with you.

My children were the inspiration for this thought revolution. Neither of them get embarrassed about their “mishaps”. Not that they are ones to go out and do things specifically for attention, but should the “oops” take place; they are the first to laugh at themselves instead of reacting like it is the end of the world.

So next time you leave the bathroom with a wedding train of toilet paper stuck to your shoe..grab a flower from a nearby table and start the procession music. The next time someone informs you of the hideous green speck reserving space between your teeth, smack your lips and say something witty as to savoring the taste of lunch all over again. Most importantly, laugh at it. You’d be surprised how much more at ease everyone around you will be…especially since we all have those moments!
