Community Development Block Grant Funds Available January 2013
Nonprofit organizations and low and moderate income residents may qualify to receive a portion of funds available through the government-issued grant program.

The will begin allocating its funds totaling $22,000 after Jan. 1, 2013, as passed by members of the Board of Aldermen on Tuesday. The program’s activities must meet one of the following criteria: benefiting low and moderate income residents, eliminating slums and blight and alleviating urgent, serious and critical community needs.
The public hearing handout, which was distributed in the meeting, outlined several other eligible activities of the program: acquisition by the recipient or other public or private nonprofit entity, public facilities and improvements, clearance activities such as demolition and removal of buildings, providing of public services like fair housing counseling or homebuyer down payment assistance (must be a new service or a quantifiable increase in the level of an existing service), interim assistance like repair city’s infrastructure or special neighborhood cleanup campaigns; and privately owned utilities.
Rehabilitation assistance may be available for privately owned buildings, low-income public housing, publicly or privately owned commercial or industrial buildings and nonprofit owned nonresidential buildings.
