Concord Students Rally Around Classmate with Cystic Fibrosis

Concord Elementary School students raised $1,622 for the parents of first grader Luke Price, who has Cystic Fibrosis, according to a news release from the Lindbergh School District.

The Concord Character Council presented the check to Betsy and Mike Price on March 8.

To raise the money, students held a variety of fundraisers, including a Candy Gram sale, read-a-thon, and “Jingles for Jammies” day.

“We are so grateful for everything Concord and Lindbergh Schools have done to support Luke and for CF Awareness,” Mike Price said in the release. “This money will go to help not just Luke, but every kid with Cystic Fibrosis. Thank you so much. It means everything to us.”

As a tie-in to the fundraiser for Luke, Concord students will now be selling flower bulbs, and proceeds will go to plant trees in urban areas of St. Louis that are lacking oxygen-producing plants. The move will help the city of St. Louis breathe easier, according to the release.

“I encourage all of you to think of our world, and how we can provide more oxygen,” Principal Megan Stryjewski told students during the assembly.

Luke’s journey can be followed on his website, www.lukeshope.com, and on April 23 his parents will host Lukeapalooza IV at Llewellyn’s Pub in Webster Groves. Twenty percent of all proceeds from 6 to 10 p.m. will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The family is also organizing a team called Luke’s Heroes for the CF Foundation’s Great Strides Walk on May 18 in Carondelet Park, according to the release.
