Crestwood Veterans Still Seeking Funds for Memorial
Plans to improve the memorial have stalled until more pledges are made.

Are you familiar with the Crestwood Veteran’s Memorial? Not many people are. Crestwood resident and Vietnam veteran John Morrissette has an unwavering mission to improve awareness and to revamp the current Veteran’s Memorial in front of by the flagpole.
Morrissette spoke at Tuesday’s Town Hall meeting at City Hall, and it was apparent that due to lack of funds that “Plan B” was in place. A committee that was formed to improve the memorial would like to now improve the stone currently sitting on bricks.
“We would like to raise the memorial up on a base so passers-by can see it more clearly,” Morrissette said.

“Plan A” was for a new memorial in In the case of Plan A, the existing memorial block of granite/marble with etched veteran's names would be incorporated into the new memorial.
Currently five names of Crestwood natives who were killed when serving in the military are on the memorial. A small amount of money has been raised, and donations are tax exempt. As part of the funding, the committee has vowed not to ask the city for any money, even though the memorial is sitting on city property.

The Memorial committee was started with the encouragement of Crestwood's police Chief Mike Paillou—himself a U.S. Marine. Morrissette was in the U.S. Navy.
