Tom Ballman Scholars: Debra Peppers to Spice Up Fundraiser
LHS Thespians showcase Emmy-winning documentary 25 years later with special celebration
Wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too? Our area’s favorite public speaker Dr. Debra Peppers, former LHS teacher who is in the National Teacher’s Hall of Fame, is a national speaker and TV talk show host will give an inspirational tribute to her former students and the general public on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 7 p.m. in the Lindbergh High School Auditorium as part of a benefit for The Tom Ballman Scholarship Foundation.
The event will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Emmy winning documentary, “Choices” and will include a humorous keynote address by Dr. Peppers, tribute to Ballman, and a showing of the short documentary, based on the original improvisational play written by students and Dr. Peppers. The 1986 play tackles teenage issues such as peer pressure, chemical dependency, abuse, depression, and problems which today’s teens continue to face twenty-five years later.
Dr. Peppers will be reunited with her former students from all of her classes (1973 – 2000) at this event. Ballwin was one of Peppers’ students at LHS and a cast member of "Choices.” He was the Kirkwood Police officer who was killed.
CBS Radio & TV personality Paul Cook, also an LHS alum and former student of Peppers, will emcee the event which is sponsored by the Lindbergh High School Thespian Society and will be covered by HEC-TV as part of a story they are doing on Debra Peppers. Admission is free but donations will be accepted for the scholarship. Alumni are encouraged to RSVP to Lynn Tweedie Nail at tweed2nail@gmail.com ..
