High School All-Stars Play Busch Stadium

There are two St. John Vianney students, two from Francis Howell North and Lafayette, five from Francis Howell, none from Lindbergh baseball.

Fifty of the top senior baseball players in the area will get a chance of a lifetime Mon., 1:15 p.m., when they compete at Busch Stadium during the Second Annual PNC Bank High School Baseball Showcase.

Two St. John Vianney students will play: First baseman Ryan Barnes and outfielder Ryan Snyder.

The event will pit the Missouri All Stars against the Illinois All Stars. The game will be preceded by a home-run hitting contest and a skills competition at 10 a.m.

Former Cardinals players Mike Matheny and John Mabry will once again manage the teams.

"Last year's event was a huge success and I'm excited to bring the High School Showcase back to Busch Stadium for the second year," said Matheny, whose son Tate was a key member of the Class 3 state champion Westminster Christian Academy team (Tate was a junior, and not eligible to play this year.)

"When I was in high school it was a dream of mine to be able to play the game I loved in a big stadium in front of my family and friends. We can make the dream come true for these 50 players."

The caliber of this year's team seems to be an upgrade from last year as five players were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft which was held earlier this month.

McCluer outfielder Lance Jeffries has already left to play in the Gulf Coast League after being drafted by the Cardinals. CBC pitcher Dave Schmidt and Francis Howell pitcher Brett Graves hope that Monday will be the first of many appearances at Busch Stadium. They were all drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Garrett Schlecht of Waterloo was drafted by the Chicago Cubs and Timberland shortstop David Masters was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Here is the roster for the Missouri All-Stars:
