How Is Sappington Road Construction Affecting Your Day?

Has the Missouri American Water project on Sappington Road affected your commute?
Last fall Missouri American Water began work to replace 850 feet of an 80-year-old water main that runs from Chatwood Terrace to Elmont Lane. The project was part of a $30 million investment in water main improvements, according to a news release from the company.
During the project, residents have experienced some on-off closures along Sappington Road. As of this week, traffic was reduced to one lane in each direction near the Crestwood Government Complex and St. Elizabeth of Hungary.
St. Louis County will be responsible for repairs to restore the roadway and sidewalks, Mayor Jeff Schlink said during the Board of Aldermen’s May 14 meeting.
That roadwork is expected to begin only after the water main project is completed, city staff said.
Resident Greg Roby encouraged the city to see if St. Louis County repairs can start being made where Missouri American Water has completed its work. “They have torn up and disrupted our sidewalks which the children use for walking to and from Crestwood School, and I believe that those issues need to be addressed immediately,” he said.
“They’re not only a trip hazard for people walking in that area, but if they’re forced to walk out in the street, it provides a hazard because they’re in traffic lanes.”
