Lindbergh Students to Dance in ‘Moroccan Moonlight’

Event organizers expect 575 students Saturday at Kemp Auto Museum.

A sword swallower and heated outdoor tent are just a few of the extras that students can enjoy at prom Saturday at Kemp Auto Museum. Students paid $70 per ticket for a hopeful prom night to remember.

Prom Faculty Organizer Priscilla Frost has been overseeing proms at Lindbergh for 6 years. She was prom adviser at her previous high school, therefore she has 13 years of prom experience under her belt.

“I like party planning—I think it’s fun. I’ve done it so much now I could pretty much do it in my sleep,” she said.

This is the third year that Lindbergh has chosen Kemp Auto Museum as a prom venue, largely due to space and service.

“We avoid going to hotels to not encourage that for the students,” Frost said. “When you take that out you don’t have a lot of locations left (for Lindbergh’s size). We have a great time at Kemp; we are the only ones there, and they are really great—great service and they are really helpful.”

The “Moroccan Moonlight” theme was just one of a few that Frost presented to students. She usually comes up with a few ideas and the students pick one. Once the planning is over, her main objective is to make sure the kids have a good time.

“Just sitting down, eating dinner and dancing isn’t fun for a 16 or 17 year old,” she said. “In the past we’ve had a photo booth. This year we are having a sword swallower. We have a tent outside too so we have an alternate space for the kids who don’t like dance music or if it gets too hot.”

Frost, who was on prom committee when she was in high school, thinks that coming to prom in a limo or a big bus is a great idea and the best purchase that could be made.

“Hopefully they aren’t drinking, but they will be with their friends—excited and distracted,” she said. “I think it’s worth the money so parents don’t have to worry about them driving and it’s a safer way for them (students) to go to prom. That’s the one expense I would pay for as a parent.”
