New Guinness World Record Pending for Local Group

(St. Louis, MO) It was an exciting weekend in St. Louis as 10 local baseball enthusiast embarked on a 30-hour journey to history. Their goal; obtain a Guinness World Record for “Longest Marathon Playing Wiffle Ball.”

The existing record to beat was 25 hours, 39 minutes and 33 seconds. By 3:00pm on Sunday, that record fell as the time was officially stopped at 30 hours, 11 minutes and 37 seconds.

The next step for these players is to submit all the documentation and “proof” of the event to Guinness World Records in London. Uninterrupted video recordings of the game, stats, witness statements and photographs have to be submitted for review, which could take several months.

During the event, food donations were collected on behalf of Operation Food Search. Operation Food Search is a St. Louis-based non-profit organization dedicated to ending hunger in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area and is the largest distributor of free food in the bi-state region. The goal was to collect at least 1000 pounds of food.

In order to have a shot at the record, organizers had to contact Guinness World Records first in London to get permission and obtain the exact rules and parameters they must follow. That process took about 6-weeks and was finally granted just a week prior to the event.

During the game, players were allowed only a 5 minute break for every completed hour of play. Other than that, there were no breaks and players had to eat on the fly as they waited for their turn at bat.

The event took place at All-Star Performance Baseball and Softball Training Center in Crestwood, MO and consisted of two 5-man teams. Team All-Star Performance beat Team Schultz & Myers by the final score of 239-199.
