St. Louis' Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students Celebrates 20 Years

More than 100 students, parents and teachers attended a party, both in personal and virtually.

For 20 years, the St. Louis Regional Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students (PEGS) has provided a full-time, multi-age, enriched and extended academic program for highly gifted students.

More than 100 current and former PEGS families gathered earlier this month at Lindbergh High School to celebrate the 20th birthday of the PEGS program. Even though the majority attended in person, some PEGS alumni attended the party virtually via Skype.

The reunion gave PEGS who are attending college or have graduated the opportunity to discuss their life’s works and accomplishments. Graduates have majored in science, software design, education and more.

PEGS began in September 1991 with one teacher and seven elementary students. It has since grown to seven full-time teachers, one part-time teacher and 105 students in grades 1-12.

Through individualized planning and differentiated instruction, PEGS addresses each student’s unique needs for an accelerated, challenging, academic program. The program’s south campus is housed in Lindbergh Schools, and the north campus in Pattonville School District.
