Smoking Ban and Food Riles Patchers

OH (overheard) in Patchland this week and comments from you.

Trends on what local Patch users are talking about: Some are angry and blunt while others not so much.

Β Β I am trying to quit smoking - but - this smoking ban is one more freedom squashed. What ever hapened to CHOICE? Just because I want to quit, does not mean I have the right to demand everyone else should, and businesses should be told how to run their businesses. If you don't want to be around smoking, don't go! Β --Darlene Flores, Sunset Hills-Crestwood Patch

OnΒ : Β β€œIceKitchen is overpriced, with all the atmosphere of a meat locker. Their portions are minuscule, and I'm pretty sure they get their fries from McDonalds’.” Β -- Adam, Maryland Heights Patch

OnΒ : Β β€œWhy not lengthen the yellow warning time at all intersections? Why not lengthen the time between red for one direction and green for the other?
That makes more sense to me than setting up Big Brother (camera.)
I've had an accident at the photo-enforced intersection at Astra Way and Highway 141. I never even saw the yellow light it changed so quickly!
The photo-enforcement didn't keep me safer! I think it caused the accident!” --Nancy, Arnold Patch

: Β β€œI would go further and reduce the city administration payroll by 25 percent (either through layoffs or retirements). We all have to make some hard choices and I do NOT want to see any change in police or fire employees, which I consider to be the only legitimate expenditure of my tax dollars.” --Barbara Bishop, University City Patch

: Β β€œWow! How cool. I think it's great they started a little co-op store in the mall too. If I were to recommend a β€˜flavor,’ what about something with banana in it? I think with the right fragrant accompaniment it could be really nice and refreshing.” --Brandon, Kirkwood-Webster Groves Patch

: Β β€œKen Shapiro is the unofficial Mayor of Clayton. He and his wife Mary have made the Clayton community a warmer and better place to live!” --The Warners, Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch

OnΒ : Β β€œWhile a worthwhile initiative, all the cities in West County would benefit more by agreeing not to steal each other's big box stores. Regardless of what developers want, the chaos created and tax revenue problems from these stores moving every 10 to 20 years is detrimental to the Great Streets Initiative and other beautification efforts. The money just dries up for the losing city, leaving β€˜ghost’ facilities that may never be filled.” --Steven Donaldson, Town and County-Manchester Patch

OnΒ : Β β€œEvery year, I begin by helping the children create homemade Valentine's to give to their friends. We were able to create some decorations for our home this year, since we were home a couple of days. This creating time is a wonderful experience for all of us to spend time together. This year, I am trying something new and making the children their own Valentine boxes.” --Lisa, Oakville Patch
