“This partnership will definitely draw supporters; we have the best cupcakes across the nation,” said Dowell. “Two local businesses teaming together in the community and sharing success is always great and with the support of the community we hope to reach our fundraising goal.”
On Sunday, July 1 Jilly’s debuted the cupcakes and instantly all Surge cupcakes sold-out. The exclusive Surge cupcake is featured in two flavors, chocolate or vanilla, with green and blue sprinkles, a chocolate basketball and a white chocolate Surge logo.
When Dowell became coach for the team Khalia Collier, owner and general manager for the Surge, says she always wanted the opportunity to partner with Jill Segal, owner and founder of Jilly’s Cupcake Bar & Café.
“As a successful business woman Jill Segal has been a great mentor to me and having the opportunity to partner with Jilly’s is a great opportunity to continue to build brand awareness,” said Collier. “Also, Jilly’s is known nationally and has some of the best cupcakes I’ve ever tasted and I thought it would be cool for the Surge to have their own cupcake; what better way than to host a fundraiser.”
The Surge has a current record of 9-1 and currently is slated to win the regional tournament, which will take place July 21 at UMSL. Dowell has her expectations set high for the remainder of the season and anticipates winning a national championship.
“I am anticipating the Surge winning our next two games, the regional championship, and to be the first St. Louis women’s team to travel to a national tournament and with Jilly’s support I know it can happen,” said Dowell.
