Author, Lisa Spahr of Manchester, celebrates Hams and SWLs during WWII -sharing a story few ever knew ...WWII Radio Heroes: Letters of Compassion is a story about strangers helping each other during
a time of war. The book features letters and postcards sent to the author’s family in 1943, alerting them of her grandfather’s capture and status as a prisoner of
war. Upon discovering these letters, Ms.
Spahr began researching the people who did this, and why, and reached out to find them or their next of kin, more than 60 years after the fact. Her journey is detailed in WWII Radio Heroes.
The first edition of the book was released in 2008. This new release, the second edition, is more than 220 pages in length and features images and transcriptions of the letters her family received in 1943. It will be available around Memorial Day via Amazon and other outlets. She's currently pursuing Congressional Recognition for the 284 men and women she's identified who took part in POW message relay. She travels the country sharing this story with a wide array of audiences.
Lisa and her family moved to Manchester last year from Pittsburgh PA. Outside of writing, she owns a coaching and consulting business. Her husband, Rob, is a manager with the FAA. They have two daughters, Bahia and Philomina- and their trusty Airedale-mix Syrah Jayne.
