Head of Westminster Throws First Pitch at Cards Game, Jazz Band Performs

On June 30, Jim Marsh, head of school at , threw the ceremonial first pitch at the St. Louis Cardinals’ Christian Day at the Ballpark. Mike Matheny, Cardinals manager and Westminster parent, caught the pitch. Westminster Christian Academy, Metro Christian Guide and CTA, Inc., were cosponsors of the event. In addition to Marsh’s throwing of the first pitch, Westminster’s jazz band performed before the game, and the school hosted an activity booth on Ford Plaza inside the stadium where the Westminster Wildcat greeted guests.

Marsh says Westminster was elated to participate in this great event. “We at Westminster have a special connection with the St. Louis Cardinals, as the Matheny family has been a part of our community for many years,” says Marsh. “To be part of such a significant Christian ministry event in St. Louis this year was an extraordinary privilege.”

Marsh has served as head of school at Westminster Christian Academy in St. Louis, Missouri, for the past 27 years. He has served as Board President of Christian Schools International, been a member of the Board of Directors of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States and served as board member and president of the Independent Schools of St. Louis. Marsh recently announced that he would be stepping down at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, at which time he plans to seek new leadership and other opportunities to continue to serve the cause of Christian education.

At the post-game event, Matheny and Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle shared their faith stories. Current and former Cardinals players, as well as Pirates players, also participated in this one-hour, post-game outreach event.
