Today, Missouri Baptist Medical Center opens a new door – the new front door to the hospital. The $112 million, six-story, 227,000-square-foot tower is now the main entrance to the hospital complete with hundreds of nearby patient parking spots and free valet.
The main level is finished with a lobby and patient resources. The floors above will be completed over the next three years and will house operating rooms, space for medical and diagnostic procedures, and 96 private, state-of-the-art patient rooms.
“We are planning for the future and continuing to invest in our facilities to provide the very best care to our patients and our community,” said Joan Magruder, Missouri Baptist Medical Center president.

Responding to rising health care costs nationwide and predicted demands for increased health care services, the West Pavilion design incorporates tenets of Lean health care to boost efficiency the new Pavilion and the rest of the hospital. Adapted from the manufacturing industry, Lean techniques seek to reduce waste, frustration and cost while improving patient safety, quality of care and the patient’s experience.
“With this Lean approach, we are aiming to further enhance the patient care experience by increasing the time caregivers can spend with each patient,” said Magruder.

The building is soon to be LEED-certified. The “green” initiative also expands beyond the walls of the Medical Center, with new gardens and landscaping being added to the campus.
Striving to maintain Town & Country’s green preservation efforts, Missouri Baptist also involved Medical Center neighbors in the planning process and will concentrate all buildings in the campus’ central core, away from neighboring subdivisions and buffered by berms, trees and extensive landscaping.
The design and construction team included HOK, architect; Clayco/Legacy, general contractor; KJWW, engineering lead; Sachs Electric, electrical contractor; Murphy Company, mechanical contractor; and Stock and Associates, civil engineer. Oversight was provided by BJC Design & Construction.
The new tower comes months after opening a three-story parking garage, topped by a branch of Goldfarb School of Nursing and the Clinical Learning Institute.
