St. Louis Surge to Honor Fathers at Home Game Four

St. Louis, Mo – June 13, 2012 – The St. Louis Surge Women’s Semi-Professional Basketball will acknowledge all fathers on Father’s Day during their fourth home game of the 2012 season against the Illinois Shooting Stars on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 3:00 p.m., sponsored by Ameren Mo. All fathers who attend home game four will be admitted for half price at a cost of $4. General admission will remain the same: adults $8, students (with high school or college student I.D.) $5, and $3 for children 12 and under.  

The game will take place at the University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL) Mark Twain Building located at One University Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63121. Doors will open 45 minutes prior to the start of the game. All youth basketball teams or players who attend any home game in their official team uniform will be admitted free.

Since the launch of the 2012 season, the Surge has continued to expand its roster with five former area stand-out players: Incarnate Word Academy and Southeast Missouri State University alumnus, Bianca Beck (guard); Vashon High School and Georgetown University alumnus and current professional player overseas, Jaleesa Butler (guard); Francis Howell Central High School, University of Missouri Columbia alumnus and current professional player overseas, Shakara Jones (post); Missouri State University alumnus and former professional player, Kari Koch (guard); and Cardinal Ritter Prep Academy and Drake University alumnus, Jordann Plummer (guard).

The St. Louis Surge has a current record of 6-1 and has been averaging 90 points a game. The Surge roster for the fourth home game will include the following players: Rita Adams (4), Bianca Beck (13), Jaleesa Butler (32), Tiffany Foote (11), Nancy Hesemann (22), Shakara Jones (10), Ashley Lord (4), Jordann Plummer (21), LaTice Jones (23), Kari Koch (1), Christy Lane (34), Gabriella Green (35), and Brianna Leland (45).

The remaining home games for the season are as follows: Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.; and Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. The St. Louis Surge is also scheduled to host the 2012 Regional Tournament Saturday, July 21, 2012 time TBD. All home games including the Regional Tournament will take place at UMSL.

The Saint Louis Surge is a member of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL), which is a semi-professional woman’s league that consists of 50 member teams from major cities across the United States. The mission of the St. Louis Surge Women’s Semi-Professional Basketball Team is to become role models and mentors in the St. Louis community while fostering a team of sportsmanship, teamwork and excellence. The other major focus of the program is to promote sport participation and provide players the opportunity to meet with recruiters and scouts from various colleges, universities, and professional teams world-wide.

 

About Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League

This mission of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) is to provide highly competitive basketball for women age 20 and older. The competition level ranges from former college players to former National Women’s Basketball League (NWBL), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and current international players. In addition, the WBCBL has built a networking relationship with professional international basketball scouts and agents to broaden the possibility of higher-level professional jobs being offered. The WBCBL acts as a primary Farm/Recruiting league for the WNBA.
