As sure as April brings in rain showers leading to May Flowers, it also ushers in a revered St. Louis tradition, the 64th Annual Greater St. Louis Book Fair. Taking place April 25-28 at Macy’s West County Center in Des Peres, this legendary charity book fair, the largest of its kind in the Midwest, draws collectors, book lovers, bargain hunters and treasure seekers from around the region.
The Book Fair features millions of donated books, CDs, DVDs, ephemera and much more. The category of offerings includes limited editions, rare books, signed copies, coffee table art books, children’s books, cook books mysteries and more.
“Our volunteers work all year long sorting, cataloging and pricing the countless donations we receive,” says Marilyn Brown, a current co-chairperson of the event. “Through the generous support of our sponsors Macy’s, First Bank, West County Center and Hogan Transport, we are delighted to be able to carry on this legendary sale which benefits the Nursery Foundation of St. Louis and area literacy programs.”

While the most common reason for attending the fair is to pick up great books to read at reasonable prices, many people head to the event to load up on books for a variety of reasons. Some purchase series of reference books to display in book cases, and others use the books for craft projects and home décor.
For a $10 admission, shoppers can attend the preview event from 4 to 9pm on Thursday, April 25 before the fair opens to the general public. Admission is FREE for the remainder of the Fair.
