The DCGSL (Dalmatian Club of Greater Saint Louis) participated in this year's Great Fire Engine Rally Parade in downtown St. Louis, plus paid a visit to the West County EMS and Fire Protection District's Fall Festival this weekend.
The club has also teamed-up with many Fire Departments in support of Fire Safety Prevention week and Fall Festival Community Outreach events.
This weekend a few of the Dal’s were seen at the West County EMS and Fire Protection District for their Fall Festival and offered attendees a chance to “Meet the Breed”. Kathy Ryan and Mary Zeis, both from St. Charles, were there with their Dalmatians, Indy and Turbo, explaining the breed and the original Dalmatian story. The Dalmatian breed is successful at obedience, agility, flyball, tracking and much more. Originally, Dalmatians were used as hunting dogs, but are best known as a carriage or coaching dogs. Their job was to guard the coach and also be a calming companion to the horses. Dalmatians are still the official mascot of firefighters.
