Three Westminster Students Named Semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program

Westminster Christian Academy is pleased to announce three 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists: seniors Daniel L. Pollman, Anne R. Rebbe, and Megan C. Smith.
These academically talented high school seniors are among 16,000 Semifinalists who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, which they will be notified of in February. More than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earing the Merit Scholar title.
Approximately 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT (PSAT), which served as the initial screen of program entrants.
Westminster Head of Upper School Dr. Jim Sefrit expresses great excitement for the school’s National Merit Semifinalists. “Daniel’s, Anne’s, and Megan’s God-given talents and dedication to academic excellence have resulted in their recognition among the top one percent of all seniors in the United States,” says Sefrit. “Their outstanding grades and academic accomplishments are matched only by their outstanding character and citizenship. We at Westminster are so very thankful for them.”
