Camp Westminster, a new summer camp program held at Westminster Christian Academy in Town & Country, runs from June 4-29 and offers a variety of half- and full-day summer camps for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through 8th grade.
Head of School Jim Marsh says Camp Westminster illustrates Westminster’s ongoing vision to serve as an irreplaceable asset to the St. Louis community. “God has blessed us with a wonderful new campus that we want to put to excellent use seven days a week, 365 days a year,” says Marsh. “Our desire is to welcome the community onto our campus. We have been blessed, and now we need to be a blessing.”
While Westminster has offered a summer camp program in the past, this year’s camp as been completely revolutionized, offering a variety of new options for campers, including full- and half-day options, according to Camp Coordinator and Westminster teacher Abby Karsten. “The fact that Camp Westminster offers so many specialty camps that fit kids’ specific interests and that are taught by teachers and coaches who share that interest, makes this camp experience truly unique.”

Camp Westminster will offer a wide range of sports camps in addition to non-athletic camps, as well as offer a variety of new camps for summer 2012, including a culinary camp, musical theatre, movie-making, sculpture art and basketball with former NBA and Mizzou basketball star Steve Stipanovich. Stipanovich says he is excited about all of the opportunities Camp Westminster provides and is particularly looking forward to simply hanging out with the kids.
“I love working with young kids,” says Stipanovich. “My basketball camp is a designed for kids to have a ton of fun while learning the fundamentals of the game and further developing those key skills,” he says. “And what better place for kids to learn? Camp Westminster provides a great, safe environment filled with excellent instructors, which gives parents peace of mind.”

Karsten emphasizes that the camp’s highly qualified, dedicated and enthusiastic instructors, most of whom are Westminster teachers and coaches, set Camp Westminster apart from others in St. Louis. “These individuals are truly passionate about what they do, as is evident in their everyday lives – both during and outside of the school day,” says Karsten. “Their enthusiasm for their sport or activity is contagious, and they are wonderful mentors,” she says, noting that the tennis camp instructor has been a renowned tennis coach in St. Louis for more than a decade, and the sculpture art instructor, who has taught art at Westminster for many years, is fervent about providing kids of all ages different opportunities to be creative – to think outside the box and to explore art using three-dimensional mediums.
Marsh echoes Karsten’s enthusiasm about the camp staff. “We have been blessed with great teachers, and we want to share them – along with their great expertise - with others in the community,” he says. “Camp Westminster provides our faculty the opportunity to use their gifts to touch the lives of even more kids outside the Westminster community. It is exciting that we have the chance to provide our teachers yet another way in which they can truly make a difference.”
Whether compiling and editing video clips in movie-making, rattling their funny bones in improv theatre, or soaking up the best baseball tips from former St. Louis Cardinal Andy Benes, Camp Westminster is the place for kids who want an ultra-fun, unforgettable summer camp experience.
“We want kids to come away from their camp experience each day with a sense of fun and excitement,” says Karsten. “Parents will be encouraged to know that while their kids are having a great time with people who care about them, they will also be enjoying an enriching experience that will hopefully grow their interests and teach them new things. There’s a new adventure every day!”
