Westminster's military assignment

Westminster teacher Susie Pike’s son-in-law, Cpt. Patrick McLain, visited her digital print class today during 5th period. The captain is in command of the K-9 Engineering Unit at Ft. Leonard Wood. He brought with him a soldier and his dog that sniffs out mines and explosives.

Pike’s class was asked to design the unit’s coin. Cpt. McLain presented the company’s history and the purpose of the coin, as well as the requirements for the design. Once the project is finished, Cpt. McLain’s company will select the winning design and have the coins produced for the unit. The student whose design wins will receive one of the coins. Mr. Marsh stopped by to show the students his two coins. One he received while he was in the Marines, and one he received as a gift from a student.
