Traditionally, May is THE month for graduations: all types, from everywhere, for everybody aching to get out, move on and move up.  Such an end suggests a new beginning, or at least a transition that feels brand new. Â
On May 21st, my son graduated from St. Louis University School of Law, marking the end of his academic training, and the beginning of a new life.  As a parent, his graduation  stirs many sentiments, old and new. What would I like to say?
More than ever, I am aware of the passing time. Â How and when did you become twenty-five years old? Have I grown older?Â

You look and act so confident. You speak with self-assurance now. You no longer need my advice, or my hands to pick you up when you fall. You have your own opinions, and though they may differ from mine, your conclusions make sense.Â
When you were born, I dreamed of the man you would become. Â It seems that my work is finished. But, every now and then, I will wistfully recall the young boy that asked so many questions, and found such delight in simple, everyday wonders. Â I am proud of this ending.
