Parkway South Middle Takes a Seat in Chesterfield
Parkway South Middle students created a chair on display all summer long as part of the Chesterfield Arts program.
Parkway South Middle was one of six Parkway schools selected to participate in the Chesterfield Art's Take a Seat in Chesterfield Public Art Tour, which kicked off at the Chesterfield Amphitheatre in early June. Twenty two schools were selected to participate. Live music and art activities were part of the evening celebration, which was largely funded by the City of Chesterfield.
Students in Mrs. Karen Silverman's art class chose the theme "Life is a Bowl of Chairies" to paint on their white fiberglass chair. A thumb-print cherry of each 6th, 7th and 8th grade student who worked on the project was placed on the chair. Incorporated into the design was use of various painting styles; including Surrealistic artist Salvador Dali, Neoplasticism artist Piet Mondrian, and impressionists Vincent Van Gogh, Georges Seurat and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
As part of the continued public art tour, the chairs are located in and around West St. Louis County until August 28. Parkway South Middle's chair is located at Sam's Club in Chesterfield Valley. To encourage the community to visit each location, Chesterfield Arts is sponsoring a "Musical Chairs" trivia challenge with family-friendly prize packages.
