FREE TRAINING PROGRAM FOR ONCOLOGY PROFESSIONALS ON AUG 19

CSC & ENACCT Present “Open to Options Plus” Strengthening Communication, Recruitment & Retention Practices in Cancer Clinical Trials

St. Louis, Mo. — (July 24, 2013) Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis (CSC) and Education Network to Advance Cancer Clinical Trials (ENACCT) are offering a free training program “Open to Options Plus” for oncology professionals involved in clinical trials recruitment and accrual on Aug. 19, 2013 at CSC, 1058 Old Des Peres Road, St. Louis, MO 63131. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the program will be from 8:00 a.m. until noon.  A light breakfast/lunch is included.

Participants attending “Open to Options Plus” may receive continuing education credits.  Please see eligibility regarding continuing education credits below. This program is made possible through funding support by Celgene Corp. and Eli Lilly & Co.

Margo Michaels, MPH

Over the last 15 years, Margo Michaels has developed numerous innovative programs to educate cancer advocates, community leaders, and health care professionals about policy and science issues related to cancer and cancer clinical trials. As the Founder and Executive Director of the Education Network to Advance Cancer Clinical Trials (ENACCT), she is considered a national expert in community-based education efforts around cancer clinical research. 

Bertie Ford, RN, MS

Bertie Ford is a senior clinical oncology specialist with Genentech BioOncology.  She is currently chair of nominating committee for ONCC (oncology nursing certification board. Ms. Ford is former co-chair for the project team of EDICT (Eliminating Disparities in Clinical Trials) for patient navigation) and is a former program committee member of ENACCT.

ABOUT CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS:  

• Physicians- This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 3.75 prescribed credit hours by The American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by The AMA as equivalent to AMA PRA Category I for AMA The Physicians' Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed hours earned must be reported as prescribed hours, not as Category I. (This statement applies to all Physicians, not just Family Physicians). Educational Review Systems is also approved for physician continuing education by the state of Florida.

• Social Workers - This program is Approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval #886521985-2058) for 4 Social Work continuing education contact hours.” 

• Nursing - Educational Review Systems is an approved provider of continuing education in nursing by ASNA, an accredited provider by the ANCC/Commission on Accreditation. Provider # 5-115. This program is approved for 3.75 hours of continuing nursing education. Educational Review Systems is also approved for nursing continuing education by the state of California, the state of Florida and the District of Columbia.
