For the seventh consecutive year, St. Louis-based The Staenberg Group, a national developer, investor, owner, and manager of real estate, will host its annual tulip giveaway, offering more than 50,000 free tulip bulbs to the community. This year’s event will begin at 8am on Saturday, May 12. The tulips are given away on a first come, first serve basis and the supply is typically depleted by 10am.
Gardening enthusiasts should take note of the giveaway’s new location at 2117 Sams Drive in Des Peres, directly behind Sam’s Club, just west of I-270 and Manchester Road. This event was formerly held at the Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis ReStore facility on Forest Park Avenue in
St. Louis. This summer, the site in Des Peres will be the new location of the area’s second Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis ReStore, which provides financial support for Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis by selling building supplies, home remodeling materials and home décor items to the general public.

The bulbs will be harvested from several shopping centers owned and managed by the Staenberg Group, including Chesterfield Commons, a 2 million square-foot outdoor shopping center in the Chesterfield Valley. The Brickman Group, the landscape services provider for the company, removes the bulbs so they can plant colorful annuals in time for the summer growing season at the area shopping centers owned and operated by The Staenberg Group. Brickman will haul the tulips onsite on the morning of the giveaway, and gardening experts from Brickman will be on hand to provide tulip planting tips. It takes 50 workers to pull the 50,000 tulip bulbs and 10 trucks to haul them to the giveaway site. The sight of so many tulip bulbs in one place has earned the name “Tulip Mountain” from passersby.
“A core philosophy of the Staenberg Group is to give back to the communities in which we all live, work and play,” said Michael Staenberg, president of the company. “We are proud of the fact that we have been able to extend the beautification efforts of our shopping centers to yards in our local community. It’s a great way to celebrate spring each year.”

Patrons are asked to bring a recycled shopping bag or grocery bag to carry their tulips home. While there is a generous amount of tulips to give away, organizers ask that each guest take away only one bag, so that the bulbs can be shared with everyone.
