Get Out For Fine Art, Jazz, Dancing And More

If you are looking for weekend events, local literary speaker Linda O'Connell, fine art and photography, Shakespeare and music are featured in this week's Get Out.

SECOND FRIDAY NOTES AT in Town and Country
Where: This event will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the café at Whole Foods.
Why go: For the month of May, this literary series welcomes poets Linda O’Connell and Lisa Ebert. Linda is an award winning and widely published writer, as well as a member of the St. Louis Writers Guild and teacher. Lisa works as an assistant professor of English and is in the process of releasing her first novel. Ro Anderson, a St. Louis singer, songwriter and acoustic folk artist, will delight you with musical stylings.
Pricing: Free

FAUST FINE ART & FOLK FESTIVAL in Chesterfield
Where: The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Faust Park.
Why go: Enjoy free carousel rides, hay rides, children's crafts, fine art and crafts.
Pricing: Entry is $2.

THE FRENCH VILLAGE at GATEWAY GALLERY in Clayton
Where: This collection of fine art photographs are on display at Gateway Gallery. Gallery hours are Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays and until 7 p.m. Friday evenings.
Why go: Fine art photographer, Greg Matchick, displays his collection The French Village. The photographs were taken in two villages, Perigord in the south of France, Beynac and St. Cirq Lapopie. The old architecture in these quaint villages are characteristic of France.

TANGO AND MILONGA PARTY AT COCA on Trinity Avenue
Where: The party is rom 8 p.m. until midnight Friday at Club 524 (524 Trinity Avenue).
Why go: The evening kicks off with a  beginner class in tango. After the class, enjoy open dance until midnight. No partner necessary. Beginners are welcome.
Pricing: Entry is $8 per person or $15 per couple. Payment may be made at the door.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM on Forsyth Boulevard
Where: The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Edison Theatre.
Why go: See Shakespeare's play featuring artists from the Nashville Ballet and Washington University's Performing Arts Department.
Pricing: The cost for adults is $25 per ticket. The cost for children, seniors and students is $20.

ECKERT'S STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL in Belleville
Where: The festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Eckert's in Belleville.
Why go: This festival is great for adults and kids alike. Enjoy food, country music and free wagon rides. Children's activities  include pony rides, a petting farm, carnival rides, and inflatables. Live music will be playing from noon to 5 p.m. each day. Stop by the bakery, restaurant and custard shop to enjoy strawberry treats.
Pricing: There is no cover charge for entry. The only charge is food and activities. Go to Eckert's website and click on the Eckert's Savings link to get coupons for a free kids cone, one entrée and two sides for $5.99 and much more.

HOUSTON PERSON - JAZZ AT THE BISTRO on Washington Avenue
Where: Houston Person will be performing starting at 8:30 and 10:15 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Why go: One of the giants of soul and groove based jazz, Houston Person’s velvet-toned saxophone has enamored jazz lovers since the 1960s. Throughout his prolific career, Person has remained a symbol of constant swing and good times.
Pricing: Tickets range in price from $25 (phone/Internet surcharge $3.25) to $30 (phone/Internet surcharge $3.75). Students pay $10. Check with venue for details and cancellation policies.

THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES - in 3-D in University City
Where: The movie will play at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Regional Arts Commission.
Why go: Celebrate Vincentennial--the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vincent Price--with one of his classics: The Abominable Dr. Phibes.
Pricing: The cost of tickets is $15 general admission and $10 for students 21 and younger.
