Special Sign Permit
The owner of Martha's Hands, a home health care company that moved to Town and Country in November, is asking for a special sign permit. The company is located at 12813 Flushing Meadow Drive. Its founder is requesting a variance from the city's 18-inch limit for sign letters and asking to be allowed to have 30 inch letters for the businesses sign. It will posted on the east side of the building facing Interstate 270. Martha's Hands owner told board members she is requesting the larger sign so it can be seen clearly from I-270, and so the business is easy to find by caregivers who train at the building. Board members agreed the building is at a unique location, and they are considering the request based on the location. They told Town and Country-Manchester Patch that they have high standards for signs within the city, but are sometimes more lenient with signs along Highway 40 and I-270. If the board approves Martha's Hands' request, Alderman Phil Behnen said he would like it noted that the sign was approved due to its location. The request was continued to the next board meeting, where it may be voted on.
