Town and Country Deer Sharpshooting Begins This Week

White Buffalo begins sharpshooting in Town and Country this week and will continue the deer management effort for four to six weeks.

Captain Gary Hoelzer tells Town and Country - Manchester Patch sharpshooting is set to begin Monday with two sharpshooters. Eventually a third person could be be brought in depending on how the project progresses.

Hoelzer said this year sharphooters will only be on private property where they have been given permission to set up. Some neighbors may be notified as well.

"We'll notify neighbors who are in close proximity to the shooting locations," Hoelzer tells Patch.

White Buffalo sharpshooters will work during the late afternoon and early evening hours of approximately 3 to 8 p.m. They will not use bows this year and they will only be on private property where they have been granted permission. 

"In the past two years, most of our complaints came from the sterilization effort when they drove though neighborhoods at night to dart deer and sometimes had to follow them (deer) onto private property or yards," Hoezler explained. "There will be none of that this time. They will be on private property where they have agreements. It should be relatively quite this year as far as people knowing they are in the neighborhood."

Hoelzer said if residents see anyone on their property who is not scheduled to be there, they are probably not with White Buffalo.
