Westminster Christian Academy Hires Director of Guidance and Counseling
Westminster names Carla Powell as Director of Guidance and Counseling.

Westminster Christian Academy has named Carla Powell as Director of Guidance and Counseling, effective August 1, 2015. Powell will work alongside four other counselors to provide individual counseling to students and parents in need, education and information on pertinent developmental topics, and guidance on academic planning.
“Trying to figure out who you are and who God made you to be is a tough thing in today’s world for anyone, but especially for adolescents,” says Powell. “I love that I get the opportunity to come alongside our students and help them in that process. Whether it is socially, emotionally, academically, or spiritually, it is a privilege to be on the journey with them.”
Powell is a Westminster alumna from the class of 1999. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Missouri. Powell received her Master of Education-Counseling at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2011. Following completion of her graduate studies, Powell worked a yearlong field study and internship at Westminster during the 2010-11 school year and was licensed as a professional counselor in 2013. Powell is entering her fifth year on staff at Westminster.

“I believe in Westminster’s mission to equip our students to engage the world and change it for Jesus Christ, and I believe in order for our students to do that it is important that they know who – and whose – they are,” says Powell. “It is our hope in the Guidance and Counseling Department that our students feel known, supported, and loved throughout their time here at Westminster. I am so fortunate to work with people that are excited about the opportunity we have to help our students grow, and I look forward to digging deeper into that purpose in my new role.”
