Westminster Hockey Team Serves Lunch to More than 100 Homeless in Downtown St. Louis

Despite the chilly temperatures recently, members of Westminster Christian Academy’s varsity hockey team participated in a heart-warming service project to provide food for the homeless.
On a recent Sunday afternoon, when the wind chill was zero degrees, team players, coaches, parents, and families volunteered several hours at St. Patrick’s Center in downtown St. Louis to prepare and serve lunch to more than 100 homeless individuals.
“The team really enjoyed their afternoon at St. Patrick’s Center,” said Patrick McWard, parent coordinator of service projects for Westminster’s hockey program. “What was great about this project was that the boys still needed to work as a team to get the lunch ready and served. As usual, they came together and got it done.”

According to McWard, what was even more rewarding to witness during this service project was the opportunity it gave the student athletes to be selfless and put the needs of others before their own. “This is a great group of kids who understand how blessed they are,” said McWard. “Giving them an opportunity to show compassion and love for others who need to see God’s love was great for their personal and spiritual growth.”
