Julia Sakharova, the newest member of the Arianna String Quartet, will give a special solo performance with ticket sales benefiting scholarship students in the College of Fine Arts and Communication at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.
The event, which also includes wine and hors d’ oeuvres, will get under way at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Ober Anderson Gallery, 101A W. Argonne, in Kirkwood, Mo. Tickets are $35. People can order tickets by calling 314-516-4570.
The Arianna is UMSL’s resident quartet.

The event benefit is sponsored by the College of Fine Arts and Communication Leadership Council.
Fans wanting to catch a complete performance of the quartet are also in luck. The group will perform at 8 p.m. Nov. 2 in the E. Desmond and Mary Ann Lee Theater at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center at UMSL. Doors will open at 7:10 p.m. for a pre-concert discussion with group members. Tickets are $15-$25. The performance, titled “Passport: Latin America,” draws inspiration from the group’s recent trips to Brazil. They returned with a heightened awareness of great Latin pieces that they felt needed to be heard.
The evening will open with Brazilian composer Osvaldo Lacerda’s captivating String Quartet No.1. Flautist Alberto Almarza, a native of Chile, will join the ASQ for a performance of Venezuelan born Efrain Amaya’s Quintet for Flute and String Quartet. Almarza is more than a special guest; he helped to inspire the evening’s program.
The concert will conclude with Gabriela Frank’s exceptional string quartet “Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout,” which incorporates native Latin American traditions into a Western classical music framework.
