Anita's Mental Health Tips: How Do I Live with Emotional Pain? ?

Feelings of depression and or anxiety are symptoms of emotional pain. How do we deal with being abandoned by those we love? Are we bad?

As a psychotherapist, I am privileged to listen to others pain. In many cases, they are able to get onto a different path, gain acceptance and feel better. Many times I have been asked, ”How do I fill the emptiness?” β€œHow do I live with myself?” β€œWhy can’t I stop drinking?” ” I want to be healthier and look better.” ”Why don’t I eat better and exercise?” These are a sampling of issues that bring individuals to therapy.

Frequently, along with feelings of depression and or anxiety come addictions. Addictions may range from perfectionism, drugs, alcohol, food, gambling, sex, money, etc. We usually develop addictions in response to emotional pain. Our addictions take the edge off temporarily. However, without addressing the root cause our addictions take on a life of their own. Then, we have double trouble as I call it.

Our mind is the only thing holding us back from experiencing peace and joy.
