Science Fiction Author and UCHS Alum William Sleator Has Died

The New York Times reports science fiction author William Sleator died on Wednesday, August 3 in Thailand.

William Sleator, a science fiction, fantasy writer who grew up in University City and penned over 30 young adult books has died, according to The New York Times.

Sleator was 66. His best-known novels include 1984's “Interstellar Pig” and "House of Stairs," published in 1974.

Sleator passed away Wednesday, August 3rd in Buachet, Thailand, according to awebsite set up by his two brothers and father. "Billy had many friends for whom his death will be a great loss," wrote his family.

Sleator's family moved to St. Louis when he was a toddler. He went on to graduate from University City High School in 1963.
