Congratulations, Democracy !

We showed that Democracy is still alive! Civic responsibility is still HERE!

Yesterday April 2, 2013, we U Citians got a chance to vote and choose between four good citizens. WeΒ reelected the 2 incumbents, however this was a significant change from the past two elections, when there was no election because only 2 people stepped forward for the two seats. Thanks to the League of Women Voters and some other forums , we were able to judge the candidates qualifications on what they said were their policies. I really feel the 4 candidates deserve congratulations from our community for taking the time to run for and unpaid civic job; CONGRATULATIONS!

We are indeed lucky inΒ this community, that we have, numerous, citizens picking up the mantle of DEMOCRACY, without asking for remuneration, from our; mayor, the other councilpersons,Β school board directors, and all of the many committees. I only hope we don't let apathy or disrespect for one another blind us to the challenges that lie ahead for us and our progeny. When young lawyers from the top schools sue their alma maters because they can't get jobs, is this indicative of a huge problem in our future?
