Their Mama Played Sax -- In the UCity Summer Band
A family-fun evening in the UCity Loop
When my son Stephen was about 8 years old (he is now 29), my husband's Uncle Jim and Aunt Peg came to visit us for a long weekend. Β Stephen was put in charge of entertaining them while my husband and I went to work. Β
Β One of the first places he showed them was Blueberry Hill, his favorite haunt. Β After the initial "How cool is this" they were seated to have some lunch. Β Almost immediately after being seated, Stephen excused himself to go to the men's room. Β Uncle Jim was thinking his sojourn to the bathroom was a little bit long but he has two older girls so he wasn't concerned. Β About ten minutes later, Stephen needed to go again. Β Well, he had a soda and some water. Β It seemed typical. Β Again, he was gone for a bit longer than Uncle Jim thought was necessary but not long enough for concern.
Β However, when it happened again in another ten minutes, Uncle Jim thought he would just take the trip with him. Β He smiles about it to this day. Β The graffitiΒ was quite amazing and of great interest to an 8 year old. Β Does anyone remember the interesting bathrooms?

Β On Tuesday evening, I was reminded of the great family fun we had in the Loop while Stephen was growing up. Β I joined one of my sister's and her friends to listen to the UCity Summer Band. Now what kind of great family fun is this! Β The band plays in the plaza adjacent to the Market Pub House and across from St. Louis Bread Company. Β They play on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. Next week, they will be playing patriotic tunes in celebration of our nation. Β
Β The little girls who are pictured dancing are the daughters of one of the band members.
