Weather Preparedness Buzz of the Day: Debris Removal Could Save You a Lot in the Wallet

Whew! It is hot and with the dog days of summer with us; we want to take it easy and stay indoors.

Green Bean Buzz would like to suggest this is the perfect time to prepare for flooding rains that may be heading our way from Hurricane Isaac.  In just one day, you could possibly prevent water from leaking inside your home.

First, clear all debris from the roof of your home.  Tree debris can settle on the roof and prevent water from shedding off the shingles, properly. Be extra careful on the roof or hire a professional.

Second, clear all debris from the gutter system around the perimeter of your home.  The debris can block the drainage channels and cause water to back-up behind the gutter and wood fascia could rot.  Also, water standing in the gutter system could cause rust and shorten the life expectancy of the gutter.

Third, stroll around the exterior walls of your home and examine cracks and openings between the concrete and basement area. Remove debris that may prevent water from building up against the exterior walls.
